So what's it like?
Walking
These three villages are set in a peaceful valley of soft hills and green pastures, framed by the magical Wilder Kaiser Mountains and the soaring Hohe Salve. With over 700km of signposted trains it is an extensive and truly a beautiful area for your walking holiday. For a relaxed start head to the Hintersteinersee Lake behind Scheffau, stroll along the lakeside footpath and stop for a swim at one of the lake bathing spots. For something a little more challenging, try the Gruttenhütte opposite Ellmau on the Wilder Kaiser. You’ll get to hike some steep descents complete with beginner standard Via Ferrata. On another day you can stretch your legs on the Scheffauer Halt, it has varying terrain and takes you to the highest point on the Wilder Kaiser. Getting around is easy with the Kaiserjet bus running 5 times a day between Soll, Scheffau, Ellmau and Going.
To make the most of this huge area get your hands on a Hiker's Experience Pass. This great value ticket gives you access to 12 lifts in the area, free entrance to the 6 mountain theme parks and use of the Kaiserjet hikers and bathers bus. Some lifts do not open until mid June. - the Ski Welt Panorama path. Starting from any of the villages, this is a truly stunning panoramic trail passing glittering mountain lakes, countless huts and alpine pastures, with views of over 70 3,000m peaks
Culture
During the summer months Ellmau often has traditional folk festivals, if you are lucky enough to visit at the right time you can sample the local dumplings whilst listening to a traditional horn band. Over in the tranquil village of Scheffau take your pick from a selection of restaurants and enjoy the pretty Tirolean chalets clustered around the little parish church. Söll is one of the most popular and well-loved resorts in the Tirol. Take time to visit the onion domed church as you explore the charming village. Soak up evenings where the village comes alive with enchanting displays of Tirolean folklore, from local festivals to open-air brass-band concerts.

With lots of active things for you to do, from mountain biking to golf, there is something for everyone. What could be better than swimming in crystal clear lake waters on a hot summer’s day? From Ellmau you can easily reach the bathing lake in Going, or jump on the Kaiserjet bus to Scheffau and head up the mountain to the Hintersteinersee. If swimming pools are your thing, there are some great ones in Ellmau and Söll, which can be reached easily with the Kaiserjet bus. For fun on two wheels, mountain bikes and helmets can be hired locally, you’re then free to follow the marked routes or take your bike up the mountain on summer lifts. If you like white knuckled and adrenaline fuelled activities, there are a full range of water and land based activities available in resort.
