In a sunny setting at the foot of the mighty Kitzbüheler Horn, the picturesque village of St Johann will certainly capture your imagination. A fantastic choice for walkers and families, whether you want to relax, swim in the pools and lakes or try some of the activities on offer - from walking and cycling to canyoning, climbing and rafting. The village comes alive in the summer and you can experience traditional folklore at the many local festivals.

    Relax and discover

Local culture: St Johann isn’t just a holiday destination – it’s a real town with real locals meaning that you’re never far from the real Austria. Spend some time wandering around the shops, relaxing with a coffee or sampling beer directly from the Huber Brau Brewery. There’s always something festive going on too – highlights include the annual Knödelfest (dumpling festival) in September and the mid-summer Jaggasn.

Adventure sports: If you’ve ever wanted your own Indiana Jones-style adventure then make a bee-line for the Hornpark high ropes course - dodge obstacles, cross rope bridges and finish with a zip line across the lake. Hire a mountain bike and take advantage of the multitude of downhill (or uphill) trails, and then relax at the Panorama Swimworld - an outdoor swimming complex and wellness centre.

Walking: Hikers have 210km of routes between the Wilder Kaiser Mountains and the Kitzbüheler Horn. Although with so many lifts, you can get to the views without too much effort.

Evening atmosphere: The town square is always popular for an evening wander and a glass of the local wine. Live performances from the town’s band and other entertainment regularly pop up throughout the summer months.

Getting out: It’s really easy to get to the local villages of Oberndorf and Kirchdorf by public transport and cosmopolitan Kitzbühel is just an 8 minute train ride away.

St Johann Discovery: Get the most out of St Johann with the St Johann Discovery package. Learn how to make the perfect apple strudel, visit Salzburg and the hidden lakes of the Tirol and pack a mac for a trip to the top of Austria’s highest waterfalls. Book before 29 April 2015.
