Walking
Opatija and the smaller resort of Lovran sit at the foot of the imposing Mount Ucka and there are plenty of walking opportunities in the hills around the area. Grab your walking boots and take you pick from a variety of routes through the wooded slopes. Head along the 2 hour trail to the medieval, fortified mountain village of Veprinac. Enjoy the wonderful coastal views whilst strolling along the celebrated 12km promenade; the 'Lungomare', stretching from Preluka to Lovran. You pass stunning scenery, pretty pebbled beaches and picturesque villages, such as the tranquil fishing village of Volosko. A 'must' is to simply take a wander around the beautiful gardens and parks that Opatija has to offer.

Many of the beaches in this region have been given blue flag status - the symbol of a good, safe and pleasant beach area. There is a good bus service to get you around the various resorts along this riviera.
Preluk is a naturally protected bay near Volosko and Opatija, and is a really popular spot especially for windsurfing. Head out early morning, from sunrise until around 8 am to really take advantage of the Tramontana wind, which blows from the north when the weather is good as it results from the temperature difference between land and sea. The water doesn't get too choppy and with force 4-5 gusting up to 7 it can offer some great conditions! Why not try -- The beautiful pebbled beach at Medveja, only 2 kilometres from Lovran
- A boat trip to the neighbouring islands of Cres & Krk. Cres is considered to be the ecological oasis of Kvarner
- In the evening, settle down in one of the many bars for an open air concert or show
