So what's it like?
Famed for its spectacular setting with views up to Mont Blanc, the Aiguille du Midi and the shimmering Glacier des Bossons, Chamonix has a lot to offer. A trip on the cable car up to the Aiguille du Midi (12,000ft) is a must, offering spectacular panoramic views of the French, Italian and Swiss Alps. Discover the area's natural beauty with a ride on the cog railway to the 'Mer de Glace' glacier at 6,200ft or a visit to the Aiguille Rouges nature reserve. There is a great range of activities on offer and the town, with its lovely flower-lined streets, has a wealth of shops to browse around as well as numerous cafés where you can relax and enjoy a drink whilst soaking up the atmosphere.
