  • So what's it like?

Königssee, the "King's Lake", and the small village of Schönau on its shores, have a magical setting, quite unlike any other and are surrounded by National Park. Fjord-like in appearance, with steep cliffs meeting tranquil waters, Königssee is the place to come to truly get away from it all.

    car hire recommended

In order for you to enjoy the peaceful settings of the hotels we have selected, and also to make the most of the attractions in the area, we recommend that you choose to hire a car for the duration of your stay in Königssee. Hire cars can be collected from Salzburg airport on arrival (and we will give you directions to your hotel).
If you'd rather not drive the area has efficient public transport systems, including trains and buses (see Local Bus Card box).

    Twin centre suggestion

Königssee has such a magical setting. Why not spend a few days enjoying the sights of Vienna in Austria, staying at the Mercure Imlauer, close to St. Stephens Cathedral and the famous Prater Ferris Wheel, before heading to Germany for a week of relaxation at the Hotel Alpenhof. Flights will be to and from Salzburg in Austria.
