    Local culture: Folk traditions are truly alive in Ruhpolding, a highlight being St George's day parade in September when 180 horses and their riders parade through the village for an annual blessing. Ruhpoldings churches are a work visiting and seek out history visit the local heritage museum.

    Walking: Walking wise you will be spoilt for choice in Ruhpolding. Explore the river banks along the river Traun before climbing up through the forests for beautiful views. Head up the Rauschberg mountain and tuck into a well-earned farmer's lunch of local meats and cheeses.

    Adventure sports: With bike routes to suit all tastes from families to passionate down hill. Discover ancient fairytales and myths hidden in the forest at the Freizeitpark.     Getting about

    Ruhpolding has a local bus service and railway station. The bus takes you to the starting point of the majority of hikes in the Ruhpolding valley. Great value train tickets are available (unlimited travel at weekends for up to 5 people - approx. £20) and children up to & incl. 14 yrs travel free. There are also two summer lifts in the area - the Unterberg chair lift and the Rauschberg cable car.

    Cycling
    Ruhpolding has a large network of cycle paths into the higher mountain areas, or cycle north towards Chiemsee following the flatter, gentle valley routes. There is a 20km easy cycling tour of the entire Ruhpolding valley with short, easy climbs along the way passing beautiful farmhouses and landscapes.  Bikes can be hired locally from approx. £7 per day.

    Ruhpolding has been designated a "Kinderland" location by Bavaria's tourism marketing agency for providing family friendly services such as pram hire, children's menus in participating Kinderland restaurants, childcare and family activities.  
    Family attractions include the Ruhpolding Fairy Tale and Amusement Park with games and rides, the Vita Alpina Adventure Pool, a children's playground and family hiking trails.
    The visitors centre hosts a weekly programme for children and families (from approx. end June - mid September) and may include family activity days, childcare sessions, forest hikes and horse-drawn carriage rides. Please note: a small contribution may be required to cover expenses.
