  • So what's it like?

    At the southern end of the lake, Desenzano is a typical Italian lakeside town, unspoilt by international tourism. Loved by the Italians, its narrow streets offer over 40 restaurants and pizzerias. Fishing boats rock gently in the harbour, whilst efficient ferries whisk visitors around Lake Garda to explore its other pretty villages.

    To see the true diversity of the area, hire a bike or take a stroll and explore the country trails through the Lugana vineyards. If you’re happy to go a bit further, the trails take you straight to San Martino della Battaglia, climb the steep hill to stand in awe at the huge memorial tower. At the top there’s a lovely little restaurant where you can take a breather, and soak up the Italian sun.

    Eating out
    For a pre-dinner prosecco its hard to beat the bar at Hotel Tripoli, you can sit back, sip bubbly and watch the posh yachts bobbing in the harbour. Desenzano is a foodie's dream, you'll find everything from cheap and cheerful pizza to gourmet award winning restaurants. To get away from the norm whilst dodging the crowds head to Kaleidos, tucked away in a sidestreet between the old port and the Park Hotel, you are sure to love the chef's quirky take on modern Italian cuisine.

    Evening atmosphere
    Head to the Piazza Malvezzi for an after dinner drink and catch impromptu live music and street entertainers. On Fridays and Saturdays, Milan's trend setters flock to join the party in chic late night bars, you're welcome to join them, or if you prefer, relax, soak up the ambiance and enjoy people watching.

    Use the efficient lake ferry and hydrofoil services or regular bus service to most other towns around the lake.
