So what's it like?
Riva sits at the northern point of Lake Garda, perched between the water and the foot of the UNESCO-protected Dolomite mountains. It's a great base for roaming the hills, trying your hand at a new watersport or just watching the world go by from its elegant waterside piazzas.

Originally part of the Venetian and Austro-Hungarian empires before finally becoming part of Italy in 1918, echoes of Riva’s past are still dotted through the town. 11th century city gates, Baroque churches and the impressive civic museum are just some of the gems you’ll stumble upon as you stroll through the elegant streets.
If you don’t have time for a week-long holiday or just fancy a few extra days away, our short breaks might be perfect for you. 3 and 4 night short breaks are available in Riva at the Hotel Astoria Park, Hotel Riva and Hotel Mirage.
For those who want to get their pulses racing, try biking, windsurfing, dinghy sailing or kayaking. We also recommend exploring the well marked local cycle paths leading you around vineyards, the Varone waterfalls and the village of Arco.
Riva is jam-packed with walking routes for all levels, whether you’re hiking up to the Chapel of St Barbara or taking a leisurely walk along the Sarca river to Arco for a delicious Italian ice cream. For the best views, walk up to the Bastione fortress at the foot of Mount Rocchetta of Piazza Catena and look over the Apponale tower below.
Prosecco and traditional Italian ice cream are the order of the day in Riva and you can’t beat the waterside on a warm summer’s evening, drink in hand as you watch the sun set. Those who want to party into the small hours will find plenty of late night bars popular with both locals and tourists.
Tucked away at the northern tip of the lake, Riva is linked to other lake resorts by the efficient system of lake ferries and hydrofoils. Otherwise hire a bike and cycle to the nearby resorts of Torbole and Arco. A regular bus service also serves the town, either going down the east of the lake as far as Peschiera or down the west of the lake to Desenzano.
If you want to get away from it all, but can't spare seven days, we have three and four night short breaks available in Riva at certain hotels throughout the resort.
