So what's it like?
Lake Bohinj enjoys one of the most picturesque and unspoilt natural settings. The villages around the lake are nestled on the wooded shores, with their charming alpine houses blending perfectly into the landscape. There are some incredible views from Mount Vogel. When the weather gets hot, there are numerous small beaches, dotted along the lakeshore, perfect for bathing.

Relax and discover
Walking: Stroll along the shores of the deep blue mountain lake or take the Vogel cable car takes you up into the mountains. The view on the way up is breathtaking. Also, don't miss the Savica waterfall walk - the 500 steps up to the plunging aqua-marine waterfall are well worth it.
Festivals: Bohinj's International Wild Flower Festival (19/05/12-02/06/12), brings nature alive. There's also the unique Cow's Ball festival, celebrating the winter homecoming of cattle after a summer in green pastures. There's also folk dancing, log sawing and even horseshoe casting! Evening atmosphere: Bohinj consists of separate villages and tiny hamlets spread across different parts of the lake. Evenings are wonderfully relaxed and tranquil affairs, except when it's festival time. Why not try -

Getting about
Take the cable car to view the peaks on the southern side of Lake Bohinj. Bus service to Lake Bled runs hourly.
Highlights
Bohinj's International Wild Flower Festival will take place 19th May - 2nd June 2012. This superb festival brings nature alive and is a great introduction to Slovene culture. There are local craft markets, traditional Slovene folk dances, daily workshops and exhibitions. In the evenings enjoy choir and folk concerts and gourmet nights with wild flowers on the menu! There's also the very unique Cow's Ball festival, celebrating the winter homecoming of cattle after a summer in green pastures. The cattle are decorated and shown off in parades with local cheesemakers, milkmaids and craftsmen gathering to sell their wares. When the parades finish, there's folk dancing, log sawing, horseshoe casting and sling shooting to keep everyone in the celebratory mood.
