Activities in Lake Bohinj

  • So what's it like?

    Walking

Lake Bohinj is a natural paradise. Stroll along the shores of the deep blue mountain lake and stop for a picnic on one of the many beaches - don't forget your swimsuit so you can take a dip! Away from the lake, the Vogel cable car takes you up into the mountains. The view on the way up is breathtaking. Vogel (a ski resort in winter) has graded marked walking trails and the quaint wooden mountain huts serve delicious meat and cheese platters with rustic bread to keep you moving. Further afield don't miss the Savica waterfall walk - the 500 steps up to the plunging aqua-marine waterfall are well worth it!

    Why not try -

    • A visit during the Bohinj Wild Flower Festival (May 21 & June 4 2011) - there are daily guided botanical walks
    • A hike to Voje Waterfall; cross devils bridge and hold your nerve as you walk along the edge of the 20m deep Moistnica gorge
    • A relaxing stroll through the forest all along the edge of the lake

    Culture

Bohinj and the Triglav National Park take you back to nature. Discover the secrets of their cheesemaking industry at the Alpine Dairy Museum, or learn the traditions of the Slovene folk at the many festivals throughout the summer - don't miss the 'Cows' Ball' in September! A visit to St Paul's church will take you back in time and you can enjoy evening mass on a Sunday. Explore more of Slovenia on one of the pre-bookable excursions; being such a small country makes it easy to get around.

    Why not try -

    • A day trip to the historic capital Ljubljana - buy some fresh strawberries in the open air market or enjoy a pizza in one of the alfresco restaurants that line the river
