Locarno has a great many activities on offer. After taking the time to explore the town itself, visitors can make the most of the opportunities presented by the surrounding area.
Trains run to the dramatic Centovalli, an area of great natural beauty, with its gorges and waterfalls. You can take a walk in the shady forests or visit the picturesque villages.
A cruise on the lake is a great way to see the area, and there are a number of Lidos where you can cool off with quick dip.
Just half an hour away by train, is medieval Bellinzona, the capital of the Ticino region, and a UNESCO world heritage site.
