Relax and discover
Fun on the water: With the finger like fjords of Lake Lucerne, this is a fantastic lake to explore by steamer. Hire a motor boat or go to the lido lakeside swimming area for an invigorating dip
Walking: Enjoy Lucerne's waterside promenades. As you stroll along feed the swans and soak up the relaxed atmosphere and warming sunshine.
Mount Pilatus is a mountain for all abilities of walker. If you fancy doing the easier sections the main walks are linked by cable and train. Local culture: Historic monuments tell the stories of Switzerland, Chapel bridge and the Lion Monument to the modern KKL concert hall. In the evenings the bars along the river have a relaxed atmosphere or head to the newer part of town if you want something more lively. Try one of the many excursions on offer, including a day on the lake visiting pretty lakeside villages, a trip up Mount Pilatus the Dragon Mountain or a trip up to the plateau on Mount Rigi. Getting about
There is an excellent network of mountain railways, boats, paddle steamers, post buses and trains giving you access to all areas of the region and beyond. The Tell Pass offers FREE regional travel and if you wish to go further afield the Swiss Pass can provide FREE travel across Switzerland.
By rail
From Zurich the train transfer takes just over an hour with the close proximity of the Zurich Airport's train station you'll be at you destination before you know it. Arriving in Geneva the transfers does take longer. It is however a direct train that passes along the shores of Lake Geneva and through Switzerland's capital city, Bern, before arriving in Lucerne. If you have some time on your hands why not put yours bags in a locker and have a walk around this pretty city.
