Relax and discover
Walking: Zermatt's trails will take you through pine scented forests, over mountain streams, around high altitude lakes and across alpine meadows. Using the lower section of the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise gondola, from the Schwarzsee Paradise there's a good walk back to Zermatt.
Active: Under the gaze of the Matterhorn, Zermatt is in a great location for a host of adventurous activities. With its altitude and glaciers you can be skiing downhill in the morning and be mountain biking in shorts and a t-shirt in the afternoon.
Gourmet: Renowned for it's foody credentials. There are some high quality mountain restaurants dotted all over the mountains. Excellent artisan food stores can be found selling local wines, meats, cheeses and chocolates. By rail: Fly to Geneva or Zurich and enjoy beautiful vista on your journey. From Geneva travel through the Lavaux vineyards on the side of lake Geneva. From Zurich, if time permits, stop off in Berne to explore this UNESCO World Heritage city.

Once in Zermatt there is so much to see and do, it's unlikely you will want to venture down the valley. Zermatt has an excellent network of cable cars and mountain railways. The Peak Pass is great for walkers and those who want unlimited access to Zermatt's lift system.
By rail
Fly to either Geneva or Zurich and enjoy beautiful landscapes to get to your end destination, Zermatt. From Geneva you travel through the Lavaux vineyards on the side of lake Geneva. From Zurich, if time permits, why not stop off in Berne and explore this UNESCO World Heritage city. From the town of Visp you'll change onto the mountain railway and enjoy plunging valleys and waterfalls as the train climbs its way up to Zermatt.
