    Walking

Zermatt's trails will take you through pine scented forests, over mountain streams, around high altitude lakes and across alpine meadows.

Using the lower section of the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise gondola climb your way to the Schwarzsee Paradise for the start of a good walk back to Zermatt. As you walk down the valley to Zermatt keep your eye out for all the special alpine flora and fauna. Furi is a pretty area just above Zermatt and is the perfect place for a meal and a drink in a mountain hut, before the final stretch back to Zermatt.

A lovely hike takes you from Schwarzsee to Stafelalp and via Zmutt to Zermatt. It passes below the north face of the Matterhorn and through the hamlet of Kalbermatten. You often come across rare alpine flowers and placid mountain animals. The hike takes approx. 3 hours and is about 5 km.

To help you reach the variety of walks on offer the network of trains and cableways will transport you to and from the best places. The Peak Pass offers unlimited travel on the 4 main lifts in Zermatt. It can be bought as either a 3 and 6 day consecutive or 4 in 6 day pass.

    Active

Under the magical gaze of the Matterhorn, Zermatt is in a great location for a host of adventurous activities. With its altitude and glaciers you can be skiing downhill in the morning, have a leisurely lunch and be mountain biking in shorts and a t-shirt in the afternoon.

    Why not try -

    • Summer Skiing: HIt the slopes for a bit of winter fun, there's nothing like the feeling of downhill skiing in summer. With 20km of pistes, Zermatt is one of only a handful of resorts in Europe that offers skiing on its glacier throughout the summer months.
    • Mountain Biking: With Zermatt's mountains on your doorstep you can point your bike in any direction and there'll be a route for you to take. The Rothorn is one of the best mountains to ride on as there's a good mix of riding. For a good cross country circuit ride from Zermatt, head past Furi and up to the Schwarzsee Paradise before heading down the other side. For some adrenalin fuelled downhill and 4 cross stuff - don your pads and full face helmet and head to the Sunnega Paradise.
    • Dirt Scooter: Something slightly different but still involving the power of gravity. Hire a dirt scooter for the day and take on the downhill route from the summit of the Schwarzsee Paradise. The big treaded wheels will provide you with plenty of grip and don't worry they have brakes too - if you want to use them.
    • Forest Fun Park: Become the king of the swingers and the jungle VIP. Take to the trees around Zermatt's Forest Fun Park, tackle various challenges as you swing and climb from tree to tree. There are safety lines and a selection of routes to suit varying levels of ability, so get swinging.

    • mountain biking • summer skiing • glacier hikes • tennis • mini-golf • golf driving range • climbing walls • forest fun park • dirt scooters • paragliding • wine tasting (Matterhorn glacier) • Matterhorn museum
